Definition “Students with high Creativity scores report high levels of interest in independent thinking and learning, and learning in individual, self-selected activities outside of school. They tend to report a strong interest in reading, practicing, and studying outside of school to learn about a subject of interest or to increase a specific skill. These students are interested in thinking up and trying out new ideas, approaches, and solutions to problems in areas of interest outside of school...”
Purposes The purpose is to identify talented students as well as students “at risk” for counseling, guidance, and special teaching strategies.

Good Cross validities for the creativity score were in the .40’s. Concurrent validity was .30 with artistic potential. There were also significant predictive validity.

Good Coefficient alpha across grade level and scores ranged from .77 to .91. Alpha for the creativity subscore was .79 to .82. Stability is not reported.

Excellent The measure can be administered by any professional in group settings in about 1 hour. The instructions are clear. There are 150 multiple-choice items. Scoring is externally by the publisher.

Excellent There are clear descriptions of each score, and scoring procedures. Percentile rankings are provided. The norms are based on the scores of over 10,000 Utah students in grades 4 through 12.

Good There is a discussion concerning the proper uses of the measure and application of the scores.

MMY 1995: This is an expansion of the Biographical Inventory Form U. It is best used as part of a battery. “At risk” identification is questionable.
